is slavery a part of Life....?

Slavery
Hand-cuffs not allowed to do independently

Is slavery a part of life…..? yes…… It lives in the minds of people since it was introduced in the society. Even the Bible didn’t condemn the nature of slavery. There are many passages in the Bible that refer to and acknowledge slavery as a common experience.

Here are few examples from Bible:

1 Now Sarai, Abram’s wife, had borne him no children. But she had an Egyptian slave named Hagar;

 2 so she said to Abram, “The Lord has kept me from having children. Go, sleep with my slave; perhaps I can build a family through her.”
Genesis 16:1-2

44 “‘Your male and female slaves are to come from the nations around you; from them you may buy slaves.

45 You may also buy some of the temporary residents living among you and members of their clans born in your country, and they will become your property.

46 You can bequeath them to your children as inherited property and can make them slaves for life, but you must not rule over your fellow Israelites ruthlessly.
Leviticus 25:44-46

Slavery Undermined

 While the Bible acknowledges slavery as an institution -- especially in the Old Testament…. It's an unfortunate fact that no verses in the Bible directly condemn the practice of slavery. As we've seen, slavery was a major institution of the culture in the ancient world, and God did not  seek to abolish it immediately through His inspired Word. We do not understand why this should be so, but we must be honest about the facts.

Slavery in British Empire
In the modern world we could find slave features in many countries which were ruled by European empires. Their rules and regulations especially tax impositions turned most the people into slaves. At the time the countries like America (1776). India (1947), North Korea and most colonial countries got their Independence; then there the slavery was noticed mostly.

Harriet Beecher Stowe
The independent rulers of their own democratic countries have been trying to abolish the demon quality of slavery. But it penetrates in to the society using the seeds left by the British Empire simultaneously.
The anti-slavery novel “Uncle Tom’s Cabin”(1852) written by Harriet Beecher Stowe led to a civil war to abolish slavery  in America during the period  1861 to 1865. There is no such evidence  to fight against slavery in India.  The social reformers and democratic rulers of India put greater effort to eliminate such evil quality from the Indian society.

What is slavery?
Slavery refers to a condition in which individuals are owned by others who control where they live and what they work. Slavery had previously existed throughout history in many times in most places Greeks. Romans etc.

A chatter slave is enslaved person who is owned for ever and whose children and children’s children are automatically enslaved. Chatter slaves are individual are treated as complete property to be bought and sold.
Slavery in the civilized world
Fundamental cause:Poverty, migration, lack of access to quality education, unemployed parents are some reasons that force children into labour depriving them of their right to education, development- and a childhood.
Slavery is everywhere in India. It’s at brick kilns, rice mills, embroidery factories, quarries and farms. It’s in roadside brothels and private homes.
The Global Slavery Index 2013 was compiled by Australian-based rights organization Walk Free Foundation on the basis of debt bondage, forced marriage and sale or exploitation of children, human trafficking and forced labour
 India has the highest number of people in the world trapped in modern slavery with 18.35 million victims of forced labour. Activities ranging from prostitution to begging fall under this category, according to a new report.

The report estimates that nearly 46 million people are enslaved globally.Behind India was China (3.39 million), Pakistan (2.13 million), Bangladesh (1.53 million) and Uzbekistan (1.23 million). The index said that these five countries combined accounted for almost 58 percent of the world’s enslaved, or 26.6 million people.

According to the 2016 Global Slavery Index, released by Australia-based human rights group Walk Free Foundation on, an estimated 45.8 million people, including women and children, are subject to some form of modern slavery in the world, compared to 35.8 million in 2014.

With over 14.2 million in India being involved in forced labour and being victims of trafficking - for sexual exploitation and forced marriage, the country is home to the largest number of people trapped in modern slavery. Globally, 35.8 million people are enslaved across the world. Of them, 23.5 million people are in Asia, two-thirds of global total in 2014 (65.8%).

slavery in India & Pakistan
The Global Slavery Index 2014 announced  that India and Pakistan alone account for over 45% of total global enslaved population and have highest prevalence of modern slavery in Asia.

The Index said, "Particularly in countries such as India and Pakistan, nationals - often including entire families - are enslaved through bonded labour in construction, agriculture, brick making, garment factories and manufacturing units.

Conclusion;
I know a lot of people who mistakenly believe that slavery is an issue for the past -- that While the Bible acknowledges slavery as an institution -- especially in the Old Testament at the practice of slavery ended around the time Abraham Lincoln was still alive. It didn't. Slavery is still a major evil that affects millions of people in the modern world -- so much so that more people are forcibly enslaved right now than at any other moment in history.
